Tax e-mail lists and tax discussion groups
|
| Tax discussion groups are becoming increasingly popular on the Internet. At last count,
there were over 40,000 Usenet discussion groups, devoted to just about every topic you can
imagine. The most popular tax related Usenet groups are:
On the misc.taxes Usenet group you are likely to run into
tax protesters and
similar information. The misc.taxes. moderated newsgroup was created in response to a
perceived desire to avoid the hyperbole of the unmoderated group and return to a more
reasoned and "well-tempered" discussion of tax related issues. Unlike the
misc.taxes newsgroup, where tax questions can be posted freely and without censoring, all
comments posted to the moderated newsgroup are reviewed prior to posting, and are
generally posted only if they are deemed to contribute to the group discussion in a
meaningful and significant manner.
E-mail Lists
In addition to the popular Usenet discussion lists, several
e-mailing lists have been
created for the free and open exchange of tax information.
IRS Digital Dispatch
The Internal Revenue
Service's Digital
Dispatch Mailing List provides subscribers with
 | Important upcoming
tax dates |
 | What's new on the IRS Web site |
 | Recently added tax forms and publications |

Tax Analysts
Tax Analysts, a nonprofit organization that publishes the popular TaxBase and One-Disc
line of products, also hosts 23 excellent tax and/or accounting discussion groups.

To subscribe to one of the discussion groups, send an e-mail to one of the group addresses
listed above, followed by @tax.org (as in statetax.group@tax.org) Tax Analysts also archives
it's tax discussion groups to allow visitors to access prior postings.
Tax Digest
One of the goals of the Tax Digest is to provide a centralized forum for current
developments in taxes without the chaos of a tax newsgroup. Individuals who are interested in
subscribing to this service should send email to Gary
Hoskins.
